It’s in the oven!!!

Oct. 7, 2010 Meatball Update

The cooking team has packed the giant sphere with the raw meatball mixture and placed in the oven in our attempt to break the Guinness record for World’s Largest Meatball. We’re pumped and ready to go, and would like to express our extreme gratitude to all of our Sponsors — especially Cashland and Hathaway & Ferguson.

Just so everyone is aware, the meatball will not be available for public consumption at the Italian Festival. We’re working with several area organizations to determine the best method for distributing the meatball after it has been judged.

Results of whether the world record has been achieved will be announced when the center of the meatball reaches 160 degrees. The official ceremony is scheduled to take place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9.  Stop by and witness history in the making including balloons, face painting, and picture opportunities…  Hope to see you there!

The Final Countdown Begins!!!

The CIC is pumped up and ready to break the record!  The oven & equipment are ready to go and the ball will be rolling in full swing this week…  Come witness history in the making at the Columbus Italian Festival October 8th – October 10th.  We’ll be located in front of Frutta Del Mondo / Cafe Del Mondo.

Columbus Italian Club Attempts World’s Largest Meatball
800-Pound Meatball To Secure Guinness Record & Several Scholarships
 
COLUMBUS (September 10, 2010) — The Columbus Italian Club (CIC) is pleased to announce that on October 8-10 at the St. John’s Italian Festival in Italian Village, it will attempt to break the Guinness record for the world’s largest meatball.  Proceeds from the 800-pound meatball attempt will benefit the Columbus Italian Club’s Education Assistance Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships to deserving Central Ohio high school students of Italian descent. To date, the scholarship program has awarded nearly $200,000 to more than 150 students in the Columbus community.  Proceeds of the event will also benefit local Meals on Wheels programs.  Ingredients in the 800-pound meatball include 1,100 pounds of ground sirloin, onion, and dried spices.
 
“We’re very excited about the world record attempt at this year’s St. John’s Italian Festival,” said Chris Beardman, World’s Largest Meatball Chairman and CIC past President. “We all feel very confident that we’ll succeed in breaking the record, but providing essential educational opportunities for local high school seniors is the real goal of our hard work.”  CIC members have devoted hundreds of hours in preparation for this event. Sponsors of the meatball endeavor include Cash America International, Mettler-Toledo, Charles Penzone, Flichia Wholesale, Train-Ease Inc, Spinelli’s Deli, and Governmental Policy Group, Inc.  The decision of whether the world record has been achieved will be announced on the night of October 8, when the center of the meatball reaches 160 degrees.  For more inofrmation about the Columbus Italian Festival, please visit www.columbusitalianfestival.com.
